Phuket's hilly interior and coastline create several well-known lookout spots.
Karon Viewpoint (Kata Viewpoint)
The classic postcard shot — three bays (Kata Noi, Kata and Karon) visible from one hillside pull-off south of Kata.
Promthep Cape
The island's southern tip, popular at sunset, with a lighthouse and small shrine at the point.
Big Buddha
The 45-metre marble-clad Buddha statue sitting atop Nakkerd Hill offers panoramic views across the south of the island in addition to being a working temple site.
Windmill Viewpoint
Near Cape Panwa on the island's south-east, less visited than the west-coast spots and a good alternative for sunrise over the Andaman Sea's calmer side.
Toh Sae Hill
A smaller, less-visited hillside viewpoint near Phuket Town, offering a quieter view over the town and coastline without the crowds of the bigger-name spots.
Best time to go
Most west-coast viewpoints get progressively hazier through the day as humidity builds — early morning generally gives the clearest visibility, while sunset draws the biggest crowds despite often hazier air than the visuals suggest in photos.
Getting there
None of these are walkable from most accommodation — a scooter, taxi, or private tour is the practical way to reach them, and several can be combined into a single half-day loop (Karon Viewpoint, Big Buddha and Promthep Cape sit within a reasonable driving circuit of each other).
