Wat Chalong is Phuket's largest and most important Buddhist temple, and the natural starting point for temple visits on the island.
Wat Chalong
Dedicated to two revered monks credited with helping the local community during a 19th-century rebellion, the temple complex includes an ornate multi-tiered chedi (stupa) housing a relic of the Buddha, alongside halls with detailed murals depicting the Buddha's life.
Wat Phra Thong (the "Half-Buried Buddha")
In the island's north, this temple houses a large Buddha image that, according to local legend, is only partially unearthed — most of the statue remains below ground.
Wat Phra Nang Sang
One of Phuket's oldest temples, in the island's north, notable for a historic ordination hall and quieter atmosphere than Wat Chalong's larger crowds.
