Night diving reveals a noticeably different reef environment than daytime diving — many species that hide during the day become active after dark.
What's different at night
Nocturnal reef life — certain crustaceans, eels and hunting predatory fish — becomes far more visible, alongside bioluminescent plankton that can create a striking glowing effect when disturbed in the water.
Who it suits
Certified divers who've done a reasonable number of daytime dives already — night diving typically isn't offered as a first-ever dive experience, given the added complexity of navigating and communicating in the dark.
Where it's offered
Dive operators running trips to sites around Racha Yai and the closer reefs near Phuket occasionally offer dedicated night dives, usually as an add-on rather than a standalone daily trip — worth asking directly if it's not listed on a standard tour menu.
