Worth saving before you land rather than searching for mid-emergency.
National emergency numbers
- 191 — general police emergency line
- 1155 — Tourist Police, specifically set up to assist foreign visitors, with English-speaking staff
- 1669 — emergency medical services / ambulance
- 199 — fire
Tourist Police
The Tourist Police (1155) exist specifically to handle visitor issues — scams, disputes with vendors or rental operators, lost documents — and are generally the more useful first call for tourism-related problems than the general police line.
Your embassy or consulate
For lost passports, serious legal issues, or a death or serious injury abroad, your country's embassy or nearest consulate (several are based in Bangkok, with some countries also holding an honorary consul in Phuket) is worth having saved separately.
Medical
See our health & safety guide for more on hospitals and travel insurance — in a genuine medical emergency, getting to the nearest major private hospital directly is often faster than waiting for an ambulance in tourist areas.
